May 2014 - Monthly Meeting

Tuesday, May 13, 2014
5:30 - 7:00 pm

First United Methodist Church, Room 21, Basement
420 N Nevada Ave.
Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Our guest speaker was Cadet Fourth Class Caroline Cotton of the United States Air Force Academy.

Cadet Cotton worked in her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona to promote a Safe Harbor Law.

She has spoken with multiple Congressmen and elected officials as well as a staff member to Governor Jan Brewer and a lobbyist about passing a Safe Harbor Law.

Cadet Cotton has spoken with her high school principal as a senior at her high school about the possibility of implementing trafficking awareness curriculum into the health classes. She learned from her brother (a current freshmen) over the last week that a program has been implemented in which students are learning about this issue, so that is a success! It seems that her high school principal took the idea and ran with it!

She attended a McCain Institute Anti-Trafficking Conference to gain information and collaborate on different programs and ways to stop human trafficking.

Cadet Cotton is currently in the process of forming an anti-trafficking club here at USAFA in which she and cadets Kaitlyn Sanborn and Steven Brandt will show anti-trafficking documentaries to the cadet wing and undertake projects to gain supplies for recently rescued victims.

Our meetings are open to organizations and individuals who are interested in stopping
Modern Day Slavery, especially in our community.
