April 2016 - Monthly Meeting

Tuesday, April 12, 2016
5:30 - 7:00 pm

First United Methodist Church, Room 21, Basement
420 N Nevada Ave.
Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Our guest speaker was Jill Cheetham, the Milton Foster Childrens Fund Coordinator at CASA of the Pikes Peak Region and Jill also works at Sarahs Home, where she was house mom in 2015. Jill first learned about sex trafficking when she was 12 and received a Master Degree in International Development after a life-changing trip to the Philippines. Her professional career has mainly been in fundraising for non-profits around the country, but she is excited to now be working more hands-on with teens in both prevention and restoration organizations. Jill founded a social awareness business called Jubilee in 2013 which sells handmade goods while raising awareness and funds for worldwide social injustices. Jill is from Rochester, New York, and grew up on her family apple farm.

Jill discussed the vulnerability of youth for trafficking along with signs of trafficking in youth.

CASA of the Pikes Peak Region is a local nonprofit organization that trains and supervises volunteers to represent the best interests of victims of child abuse, neglect, and severe domestic conflict. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court and in the community. The desired result is that children be placed in safe, loving homes where they can thrive.
