June 2018 - Monthly Meeting

Tuesday, June 12, 2018
5:30 - 7:00 pm

First United Methodist Church, Room 21, Basement
420 N Nevada Ave.
Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Our guest speaker was Susan Payne, from Safe2Tell™.

Regarded as a leading subject matter expert on school safety, Susan Payne has a career spanning over three decades. She is a decorated law enforcement veteran who began her career with the Colorado Springs Police Department where she worked undercover for multiple crime units. Susan has the distinction of also being the Colorado Department of Public Safety's first Special Agent dedicated specifically to school safety.

The U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Secret Service all recognize Susan as a subject matter expert in school safety and prevention strategies. In addition to her school safety work, Susan is recognized throughout North America for her expertise in crisis management and recovery response. Because of this, Susan is often requested to help other States and communities navigate the aftermath of a trauma. Her most recent work included assisting the Florida Attorney General's efforts following the February 14, 2018 shootings at a high school in Parkland, FL.

A wife and mother of three children, Colorado native Susan Payne is also the Founder of Safe2Tell™, a prevention initiative developed as a response to the 1999 Columbine tragedy in Littleton, Colorado. Susan currently serves in dual roles as the Executive Director for Safe2Tell™ Colorado and as the Director of Safe Schools under the Colorado Department of Law. Since 2004, over 40,000 reports have been received by Safe2Tell™, resulting in calculable tragedies being thwarted and hundreds of lives being saved! Second to none, the proven success of the Safe2Tell™ program model has made it a national standard that other States, along with Susan's guidance, are now replicating.
