Tuesday, December 11, 2018
5:30 - 7:00 pm

First United Methodist Church, Room 21, Basement
420 N Nevada Ave.
Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Our guest speaker was Sara Bratton

Sara Bratton is a fourth-generation Colorado native. Both of her grandmothers were teachers, and early-on she knew she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated with a BA in History from Colorado College in June 1987 and a minor in Elementary Education. For the next 30+ years, Sara has been a stay-at-home mother to three (now adult) daughters, taught 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, in addition to English Language Learners in a middle school, and been a volunteer with Special Education middle school students and at-risk high schoolers. She was invited to be on the Board for Denver Street School in 2010. In early 2013, her youngest daughter came to her with a project on human trafficking in Denver. Her interest was piqued and she went on a learning journey to learn as much as possible about sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in Colorado. She was the founding Academic Director of Hope Academy of Denver Street School, which opened in June 2015. She took over as Director of Hope Academy in January 2016. Sara has spoken at the SHIFT Conference, the Colorado CASA Convention, the Colorado Facility Schools Conference, and most recently at Shared Hope JuST Conference in San Diego. She is recognized as an expert both in the sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and in their academic and therapeutic needs.
